Carol S. Helms is a 1994 graduate of the University of Houston Law Center.  Before becoming an attorney, she taught high school English and history for 15 years, and served as a teaching assistant at Stephen F. Austin State University for one year while she completed a masters degree in education.  After moving to New Mexico in 2000, Ms. Helms served as in-house counsel for the Santa Fe Public Schools before entering private practice to represent New Mexico public schools.  Ms. Helms frequently lectures and presents trainings on a variety of topics germane to school law including employment, governance, student matters and special education.  Ms. Helms is licensed to practice law in both Texas and New Mexico, and her practice emphasizes litigation.
