For more than a decade, Joe R. Tanguma has been a dedicated lawyer for public school districts. His zeal in representing and working alongside school districts derives from being surrounded by a family of lifetime educators, including his parents, wife and sister. In 1997, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2000, he graduated from the University of Texas School of Law. Since being licensed, he has practiced general school law, employment law and civil litigation. His work as an appellate litigator in the field of special education has helped create favorable law for public school districts throughout the state and nation. In 2004 and 2006 he was selected as a Texas Rising Star in Education Law and was recognized in Texas Monthly and the Texas Super Lawyers Rising Star Edition. Joe is a member of the State Bar of Texas School Law, Labor and Employment Law and Litigation Sections, the College of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Association of School Boards’ Council of School Attorneys and the National Association of School Boards’ Council of School Attorneys.

Joe has provided training for administrators and educators in a myriad of public education topics at the state and local level, and has provided continuing legal education for attorneys in the area of school law through the Texas State Bar. He is licensed to practice in all the state and federal courts of Texas. He is also licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States of America, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He has successfully represented school districts in state and federal court, including before the Fifth Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
