Student Scholarships Awarded: It was our honor to sponsor the Student Panel at the 2014 TASB Winter Governance and Legal Seminar. This popular program recognizes and rewards select students for their demonstrated dedication towards educational achievement and provides them with a unique life experience that undoubtedly will inspire them to continue to work toward their future personal and professional goals.
The outstanding young people honored on this panel are evidence of the very best of public education. It has been our privilege to support those efforts, believing that everyone shares in the responsibility of the education of our state's greatest asset--our children.
Walsh Anderson, and in particular attorneys Christine Badillo and Paula Maddox Roalson who served on the selection committee and facilitated the program, was proud to contribute to public education in the joint sponsorship of this student program. Seniors in Texas public high schools applied to be considered for the scholarship, and 63 applications were reviewed by the selection committee.
Selected for the student panel and receiving a $1,000 scholarship were Tyler Kurtz, East Bernard High School, East Bernard ISD; Jocelyn Afadapa, Cypress Ranch High School, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD; Robert Cortes, Salado High School, Salado ISD; and Stephanie Cook, Hendrickson High School, Pflugerville ISD.
